Delivery jobs like Amazon Flex are a great way to earn extra income. And while being an Amazon Flex driver can be a great money maker, it’s not available in all areas, or you may be looking for more opportunities outside of Amazon Flex.

Instacart is a grocery shopping and/or grocery delivery service available through an app. Essentially, you are getting paid to grocery shop for others.

Instacart hires full-service shoppers and in-store shoppers for on-demand grocery delivery service.

A full-service Instacart shopper is an independent contractor who shops for orders and also delivers orders. This position requires access to a reliable car. You can start earning quickly and pick up work according to your schedule.

In-store Instacart shoppers are part-time employees. In this position, you are simply selecting groceries for the customer’s order in-store and bagging them for pick-up. Therefore, you don’t need a vehicle for this position. Every Instacart delivery driver must have a reliable vehicle and pass a criminal background check.

In this position, you are considered an hourly employee, and you are on the clock. The details of this delivery job are pretty simple: drivers receive bundles of packages from the delivery office, drive a course, and make deliveries.

  • You must be able to lift 70 pounds
  • You must have a clean and valid driver’s license
  • You will be provided with a uniform or vest
  • Your vehicle must be registered, reliable, and have a closed-top or covered bed. Your vehicle cannot have other company logos or bumper stickers on it.

Average Potential Earnings: Around $20 per hour

DoorDash is a food delivery app that operates in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Australia. DoorDash was founded in 2013 with a mission to support local economies. DoorDash partners with local restaurants that may not be able to offer delivery service on their own and contract with local freelancers to make those food deliveries

Once contracted as a DoorDash driver or “Dasher,” you will be able to sign up for available shifts in your desired location — DoorDash is currently available in many major cities. During your shift, you may be assigned to wait near a partner restaurant for orders to roll in. Once an order is placed by a customer, the process is pretty simple:

  • Order is placed
  • Wait for order
  • Deliver order

Pretty straightforward.

During busier times, peak pay is available for dashers to earn even more income, increasing average Dasher payouts.

Average Potential Earnings: $21 per hour

Uber Eats is a food delivery service under Uber. Delivery gigs are available in lots of major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Phoenix, Washington, etc. However, the app is growing across the nation.

Depending on your location, you may be able to deliver with your car, bike, or scooter. You set your schedule and work as much or as little as you would like. Like DoorDash, your compensation is based on your number of deliveries.

Actual earnings could be higher as Uber Eats guarantees higher rates for delivering in specific areas and times to balance driver demand and supply.

GrubHub

Average Potential Earnings: $16 per hour

GrubHub is another popular delivery app in the food delivery space. The company website says that more orders are placed on their platform than any other, and is available in dozens of cities across the U.S. They have also partnered with Seamless, so you may deliver those food orders as well.

The company encourages GrubHub drivers to sign up for scheduled blocks when they are available though I have heard that isn’t necessary. Log in and work when you want.

No pay rates are available on the site, and I have read at least one review saying incentives are almost non-existent. That being said, tips are encouraged during the ordering process, and drivers keep those 100{6c4f10cab50a46b63425e915a3b32a252b20e15cfb3b21d076e7c5437b6ee37b}.

You will need a driver’s license (state ID if you are riding a bicycle), car insurance, and a bank account to receive payment.

Shipt promotes a flexible schedule on its shopper website. You can work full-time or part-time. You set your hours.

  • Valid US driver’s license and auto insurance
  • Reliable vehicle, 1997 or newer
  • Knowledge of produce selection
  • Insulated cooler bags
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • iPhone or Android smartphone

The Shipt website currently says experienced shoppers make an average of $22 per hour. That’s not too bad, especially if you are working towards a full-time income. Shoppers are paid weekly.

Average Potential Earnings: $23 per hour

This delivery platform allows customers to ship almost anything, including their pets! And, they can ship to almost anywhere within the U.S.

Delivery rates are determined by the size of the item and the distance it’s being shipped. According to the website at the time of publishing this post, drivers can earn up to $60 for local deliveries and up to $650 for long-distance trips. You will also have access to special driver discounts on food, rentals, and repairs once you become a Roadie driver.

Drivers need to be 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, and be able to pass a background check. You also need to maintain 4-star review status once hired.

It’s more than pizza and a case of your favorite beverage. GoShare contracts drivers with pickup trucks, minivans, cargo vans, and box trucks to help people move. These gigs have the potential to include everything from hauling away a junk pile to moving furniture in a home, apartment, or workspace.
